What it shows

Caveats: Donor ZIP codes were matched to 2024 U.S. Census boundaries (congressional, state senate and assembly districts; county for countywide offices). A ZIP that touches the district at all counts as inside, so outside totals lean low. Out-of-state addresses count as outside. Unitemized contributions, unmatched ZIPs (e.g., P.O. boxes), candidates’ own money, joint-fundraising transfers and party-committee money are not counted as outside. Local unions, police PACs and Albany-based PACs count as outside under this definition. Town, county legislature and judicial candidates were skipped because ZIP-to-district matching is not reliable at that scale.
